1. Which individual or event do you attribute the greatest historical significance in the advancement of organ replacement devices or machines? Please explain why.
  Dr DeBakey's meeting with President Johnson to convince him of the value of developing an artificial heart and a ventricular assist device. It paved the way for federal support and policy concerning the development, clinical implementation, and reimbursement for artificial organs.
