The fund of the rare books and manuscripts of the Latvian Academic Library is the reachest one in Latvia for its amount and importance. It is the essential part of the collection of information materials, in addition it is also a valuable cultural heritage.
During the centuries the library acquired many valuable documents on history, medicine, life sciences, law, philosophy and other subjects, a lot of religious books. Nowadays the fund comprises more than 32 thousand copies. The fund contains collections of incunabula and post-incunabula, valuable collections of rare books printed from the 16th to the 19th century in the main European countries and collection of old Latvian printings. In the library there are old and unique manuscripts, archives and documents of remarkable scientists, writers and artists, the manuscript fund exceeds 14 thousand copies including manuscripts of Latvian writers and researchers.
