Syms Covington and Vern Weitzel
Excerpt:

The Journal of Syms Covington
Assistant to Charles Darwin Esq.
on the Second Voyage of the HMS Beagle
December 1831 - September 1836

Annotation:

This site reproduces the journal of Syms Covington, Darwin's servant during the second half of the Voyage of the Beagle. In addition to printing the full text of Covington's Journal, Vern Weitzel has included an extensive and useful introduction as well as a comprehensive set of explanatory notes. This site will be helpful to researchers of Darwin's early years and of the Voyage of the Beagle. Covington's entries should also prove useful for historians of biology (and, in particular, zoology and botany) and for historians of anthropology.
