The Deutsches Museum is one of the biggest museums of technology and science in the world. It is not a state museum but an independent public institution. Under the terms of its constitution it has the right of self administration and functions under the protection and supervision of the Bavarian state government.
Besides its main building on the Munich "museum island" the Deutsches Museum also has two branch museums:
