The Museum of the History of Science houses an unrivalled collection of historic scientific instruments in the world's oldest surviving purpose-built museum building, the Old Ashmolean on Broad Street, Oxford.

The Historical Library contains a large and unique collection of rare medical books, medical journals to 1920, pamphlets, prints, and photographs, as well as current works on the history of medicine. The library was founded in 1941 by the donations of the extensive collections of Harvey Cushing, John F. Fulton, and Arnold C. Klebs. Special strengths are the works of Hippocrates, Galen, Vesalius, Boyle, Harvey, and S. Weir Mitchell, and works on anesthesia, and smallpox inoculation and vaccination. The Library owns over 300 medical incunabula.

The Buffalo Museum of Science, through collections, research, education and interpretation, provides opportunities for all people to develop a scientific understanding of the natural and cultural world with an emphasis on the Greater Niagara Region. The Bradbury Science Museum's primary mission is (1) to interpret Laboratory research, activities, and history to official visitors, the general public, and Laboratory employees; (2) to promote greater public understanding of the Laboratory's role in national security programs; (3) to assist the taxpaying public in making informed judgments in these matters; and (4) to contribute to visitors' knowledge of science and technology and to improve the quality of math and science education in northern New Mexico.

  Since 1992, the Electronic Text Center at the University of Virginia Library has pursued twin missions with equal seriousness of purpose:
to build and maintain an internet-accessible collection of SGML and XML texts and images;
to build and maintain user communities adept at the creation and use of these materials.

The Clendening History of Medicine Library and Museum is the rare books and manuscripts library of the University of Kansas Medical Center. We actively collect rare books as well as current works in the history of medicine, nursing, and the allied professions. The Library also supports the biomedical ethics and medical humanities curriculum by collecting contemporary secondary works in these areas. Under the auspices of its Museum, the Library also owns hundreds of medical artifacts

In observance of the 50th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Exploratorium presents the photographs of Japanese Army photographer Yosuke Yamahata, along with a public forum on issues related to the atomic age.

Digitisation of both printed books and graphic material is well under way. For technical and economic reasons, documents have been processed primarily in image mode to begin with. Most of the texts selected for digitisation are out-of-copyright material making up an encyclopaedic collection on the human and social sciences which includes original material, peer reviews, reference works and a collection of journals which are either major research references or difficult to find elsewhere.

Yerkes is a 100-year-old observatory (owned by the University of Chicago) with five research telescopes, one of which is the largest refractor in the world. This virtual tour is designed to not only show you what kinds of things you would see on a real tour, but also to give you a little history and show you a little of what goes on behind the scenes.
