The Deutsches Museum is one of the biggest museums of technology and science in the world. It is not a state museum but an independent public institution. Under the terms of its constitution it has the right of self administration and functions under the protection and supervision of the Bavarian state government.
Besides its main building on the Munich "museum island" the Deutsches Museum also has two branch museums:

The Rome Astronomical Observatory is one of the 12 Astronomical Observatories in Italy. Their istitutional task is to undertake research in astronomy for the advancement of scientific knowledge and to develop and maintain world class instrumentation and facilities. The Rome Observatory, in addition to this, also houses the Astronomical Museum (open to the public on Wed. and Sat, 9-13 a.m.), where we keep the inheritance of the Italian astronomical tradition of the past centuries. The current research activity of the Rome Observatory, in the two sites of Rome-Monte Mario and Monte Porzio (just outside the city; where this server is located) , spans several subjects, from Solar Astronomy to Globular Clusters, from stellar evolution to Galactic structure, from cosmic microwave background to early universe cosmology and large scale structure. Several key technical projects are also underway.

The Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) was founded in 1973 to research how Polynesian seafarers discovered and settled nearly every inhabitable island in the Pacific Ocean before European explorers arrived in the 16th century. Some scholars have argued that the Polynesian drifted to these islands by accident; PVS set out to show that a voyaging canoe of Polynesian design could be navigated without instruments over the long, open ocean migration routes of Polynesia.

The International Meteor Organization (IMO) was founded in 1988 and has more than 250 members now. IMO was created in response to an ever growing need for international cooperation of meteor amateur work. The collection of meteor observations by several methods from all around the world ensures the comprehensive study of meteor showers and their relation to comets and interplanetary dust.
