8 June 2004 was a special day for astronomers - a transit of Venus was visible across the UK. Many people came to the Observatory to watch it using viewers, projection screens and telescopes. See some of the pictures from the day.

The collection consists of about 400 items, illustrating the technical development of shipbuilding through the last 300 years.
