Museum of Unnatural Mystery
Excerpt:

The Museum of Unnatural Mystery is the brainchild of Lee Krystek. Mr. Krystek had for a long time wanted to build a museum that would explore the fringe edges of science and at the same time use those subjects to get people interested in the more mundane aspects of scientific work. A brick and morter museum was far beyond his means, but the creation of the world wide web provided a medium that was affordable enough for him to realize his dream.

Excerpt:

»1962: The Museum of the History of Medicine, brainchild of Dr Cyril Adler, was formally inaugurated at a public lecture held in the Great Hall of the University of the Witwatersrand in April. The inaugural address was delivered by Major-General AJ Orenstein.
The Museum's role was to collect and preserve for posterity all material that would illustrate the history of medicine in general and of South Africa in particular.
»1974: In June 1974, the Museum was officially handed over to the University of the Witwatersrand and its name was changed to The Adler Museum of Medicine of the History of Medicine. Dr and Mrs Adler were further honored by the University when it conferred on them the honorary degrees degrees of LL.D. and PhD respectively, in recognition of their services to students, researchers and the public.
»1988: The Museum's first home was a flat belonging to the University, but it did not take long for Cyril to fill the space. Fortunately the South African Institute of Medical Research (SAIMR), offered Cyril the ground floor of the Directors House, around which Cyril added many outbuildings. Shortly after his death the Museum took over the entire house.
»1999: The name was shortened to The Adler Museum of Medicine.
»2002: The Museum moved to the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, in Parktown, Johannesburg.

Excerpt:

In the late 1970s, interest in a natural history museum grew beyond the reach of the sciences. The trustees wished to add programs and facilities for the general public to the existing school-focused program at Fernbank
Science Center.
Fernbank, Inc. hired Graham Gund Architects to design the striking, 160,000 square foot museum. Ground was broken in 1989, and on October 5, 1992, Fernbank Museum of Natural History opened, becoming the only natural history museum in the world located in a natural environment.
Since then, the Museum has continued to grow and expand its collection. In 2001 Fernbank became the first museum in the world to display the world's largest dinosaur, Argentinosaurus. This gargantuan sauropod is now a permanent feature in the Museum's 86-foot tall atrium along with the world's largest carnivorous dinosaur, Giganotosaurus, a flock of pterosaurs and a variety of other contemporaneous species in the Museum's newest permanent exhibition, Giants of the Mesozoic.

Some maps deliberately set out to deceive. Many show a selective view and reflect only the interests of the people who made them. Stunning maps from ancient to modern reveal a secret world. In every case there is more than meets the eye.
As well as over 100 maps and other exhibits from the British Library's superlative collections, there are interactive screens and events to help you explore the themes further.

The Small Bodies Data Base (SBDB), currently in development, will combine the contents of all our online catalogs with our catalog of offline data to provide direct access to both datasets and individual results. The SBDB will eventually allow users to identify objects based on observed properties and to retrieve data relevant to specific selected objects. During the first stage of implementation, each online catalog is ingested into the database and the contents made available for display based on object identification. A cross-identification utility is built into the interface, so that only a single ID need be entered to retrieve all available data relevant to the object.
