In other words, it's a system by which experts in a field who don't have technical knowledge can train a machine to recognize documents/patterns in their field. 

To date, the most extensive use of Gamera has been the analysis of [http://www.dlib.org/dlib/february01/choudhury/02choudhury.html sheet music] from the Peabody Library's collections.
